Breakfast with Minions and Other Gru Family Members

Liliane Opsomer, coauthor of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World with Kids, recently enjoyed breakfast with Minions. Here is her report!

I strongly agree with Robert A. Heinlein, who said, “One should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast.” If, in addition to food, you get to meet with Minions, what could be better?

Minions

Every Saturday, the Tahitian room at the Loews Royal Pacific Resort is home to the Despicable Me Character Breakfast. Make sure to arrive 20 minutes prior to your seating time, as you do not want to miss the special photo session with Gru and a Minion prior to entering the breakfast room.

The all-you-care-to-eat buffet includes favorites such as pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausages, and bacon. There was a selection of cereals, fruits, and pastries, and the buffet also included several fresh juices, as well as coffee or tea.

The highlight of the visit, however, is meeting the characters. During the breakfast, Margo, Edit, Agnes, and a Minion stopped at our table. To be precise, they stopped next to our table, and staff members called families for their meet-and-greet. I really liked this, as it expedited the meetings while still giving each family just the right amount of time with the characters.

Seating arrangements are in tables of eight. Because there are three seating times, you only have 1 hour to eat, but 1 hour for breakfast, especially for a family with kids, is sufficient. I visited with a friend, and we enjoyed chatting with the other guests at our table. The waitstaff was very efficient in both handling any request and in chaperoning the characters to all tables in a timely and orderly fashion.

Good to Know when Dining with Minions

Seating times are 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. Dining with Minions is a great way to start the day or to end a Universal Orlando vacation if you have an early afternoon return flight. The price is $34.99 for adults and $20.99 for children ages 3 to 9, tax not included. The full menu is available here. For reservations call 407-503-DINE (3463) or purchase tickets online.

Universal Orlando also offers a Marvel Character Dinner at Café 4 and the seasonal The Grinch & Friends Character Breakfast at Circus McGurkus Café Stoo-pendous. Both are held at Universal’s Islands of Adventure.

For older teenagers and brave adults, consider the seasonal Halloween Horror Nights Scareactor Dining Experience held at Universal Studios’ Classic Monster Café.
