Walt Disney World Fun Facts

Covering 40 square miles, Walt Disney World is about the size of San Francisco, and while a third of the land is designated as conservation land, the Kingdom of the Mouse is impressive. Equally impressive are some of its fun facts. Here are five of our favorites.

Mickey Mouse has more than 136 different sets of duds, ranging from a Jedi robe to a tuxedo. Minnie Mouse’s wardrobe contains more than 100 outfits, many of which are haute couture, of course.

Some of our favorite outfits of Minnie Mouse are her Halloween outfit and her savvy traveler outfit at Adventures Outpost at the Animal Kingdom. The two seem to be ready for any occasion, from Christmas to a trip on a cruise with a stopover at Castaway Cay.

Walt Disney World Lost and Found receives an average of 210 pairs of sunglasses per day and collects annually more than 18,000 hats; 7,500 autograph books; 6,000 cell phones; and 3,500 digital cameras. Speaking of cameras. Yours Truly left her camera behind at Epcot and was grateful and amazed to find it the next day at Lost and Found, which is located at the Transportation & Ticket Center. According to long-time Lost and Found staffers, the most unusual items turned in have been a prosthetic leg, a potty trainer, and a glass eye.

More than 30 tons of fruits and vegetables are grown at The Land Pavilion at Epcot and served in Walt Disney World restaurants.

Each year a horticulture staff plants 3 million bedding plants and annuals while also maintaining millions of other plants, including more than 4 million shrubs and more than 200 topiaries. This comes to no surprise, as 4,000 acres of Walt Disney World property are devoted to gardens and landscapes. Did you know that the Liberty Oak at the Magic Kingdom is the proud parent of more than 500 young trees? These trees all started out as acorns harvested from this majestic oak. When the staff is not busy planting flowers and trees, they are taking care of 450,000 miles of turf that needs mowing!

Disney’s PhotoPass photographers take between 100,000 and 200,000 photos of guests at Walt Disney World on any given day. Smile—you are on camera!
