Our Disney Cruise Line expert, Tammy Whiting, is back from her third visit to Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. She is confident that this island destination will keep getting better. Here are 10 differences she noted on her latest visit!
1. Golf Carts – The pier at Lookout Cay is still long! While it doesn’t require nearly as much walking as the average day at a theme park, it’s a long way (in swimsuits) with no shade and not much to look at.
Disney now has a meeting place onboard for those guests with mobility issues who would like to ride a golf cart down the pier. At the end of the day, there’s a place to line up to take a golf cart back to the ship. And if the golf carts aren’t busy, it seems anyone can use them. We chose to walk, although we had a couple of golf carts stop and offer us a ride on the way.
2. Wagons and Strollers – There are also now several first-come, first-serve wagons and strollers for guests (likely with children) to use to help them get down the pier, which I think is a great idea!
3. Water – Disney added a water dispenser partway down the pier, which is especially nice on a hot day.
4. Flies – On our first visit to Lookout Cay, we couldn’t eat much due to the swarm of flies surrounding the food. I don’t know what Disney did, but the fly situation was greatly improved on my second trip. I heard from others that they saw a few flies, but we had none at lunch. On my third visit, we had a few flies at Serenity Bay, but they were still greatly diminished in number!
5. Breezes – The first time I visited Lookout, the heat was stifling. The second and third times, it was hot, but we had a lovely breeze for most of the day.
6. I Did the Nature Walk – The second time I visited, I had more time to explore, and we did the nature walk. The nature walk was fun, with water stations and signs to read along the way. The beach at the end was beautiful and empty. We could see the family beach farther down, but, surrounded by beautiful rock structures and empty sand, it felt a world away. I do not, however, recommend doing it during the heat of the day. That’s the opposite of fun.
7. Shops – The shops on Lookout Cay were decidedly less crowded on my second and third stops, and the merchandise was all still fully stocked. Good news if you’ve been waiting for anything.
8. Rougher Water – The water on the family beach was a little rougher on my second and third visits. There were actual waves. We loved it, but it wasn’t as easy on the little ones.
9. Steak on the Menu – Disney added cook-to-order steak over at Serenity Bay! A staple at Serenity Bay on Castaway, it was missing at Serenity Bay on Lookout Cay. It’s there now!
10. Drinks in Stock – On the first visit to Lookout, there were a few drinks we tried to order, only to find out they weren’t available yet. This time, we could get almost anything we wanted.
