Test Track 3.0 Now Open at EPCOT

Test Track 3.0 has made its debut at Walt Disney World, and the Unofficial Guide has everything you need to know about the latest incarnation of EPCOT’s fastest attraction.

Two years after it was first announced at the D23 Expo, the second extreme makeover of EPCOT’s Test Track attraction (now referred to as Test Track 3.0) has been completed, and the refreshed ride held its grand opening on July 22, 2025. But Unofficial Guide coauthor Seth Kubersky had several opportunities to preview the attraction ahead of its official opening, including a chance to walk the queue with some Disney Imagineers!

As soon as you approach the attraction, you’ll notice that the obtrusive scaffolding that cluttered the entrance plaza has been stripped away, and guests can once again appreciate the building’s unique cylindrical shape that dates back to the original World of Motion dark ride.

Windows now allow sunlight into the queue, as well as views of the speeding vehicles on their final lap; additional windows look in on more vehicles making their initial spiral ascent, again harkening back to the original World of Motion.

The initial portion of the queue displays three complete concept cars from GM’s past, plus a series of small models of possible future designs. What you won’t find is much information about what you’re looking at, nor any type of interactivity: The car-designing preshow has been completely removed, and guests go direct to the boarding station with no explanation of the setting or story.

Once you board your six-passenger test car, you’ll see that the vehicle and the path that it follows are structurally identical to before the makeover, but the visuals have been overhauled to remove the prior TRON-esque aesthetic.

Projection mapping and and a giant video dome are used to great effect at the beginning and climax of the ride to visualize driving through futuristic cities.

And the scenes in between have been greatly enhanced with more detailed sets—including a suburban garage and naturalistic forest—that are a big improvement over the former black walls.

Tip: Keep an eye (and ear) out for a couple of nods to the original Test Track, and its “Fun to be Free“ predecessor, which opened in 1982.

Finally, the 65-mph slingshot around the building still serves as Test Track’s grand finale, and it’s just as thrilling as ever.

However, the post-show that guests exit into has the least entertainment value in the pavilion’s long history. Aside from some expensive cars to ogle, there are no interactive games or exhibits of note before you exit through the gift shop.

For its new effects and fleshed-out sets alone, Test Track 3.0 is clearly an improvement over the last version, and guests who were tired of the preshow (or single riders who skipped it) won’t be upset that it’s gone. But if you were hoping for some substance to the edutainment, or more substantial changes to the ride itself, this sprucing up might fall short of expectations.

Although Virtual Queues were used during Passholder previews, Test Track is now operating with a standard standby line. It also participates in Lightning Lane Multi Pass as a Tier 1 attraction. Your best bet may be to use the single-rider queue, which is usually very efficient due to the vehicles’ six-across seating design.
