More than two months after shutting down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, signs of life are starting to return to Walt Disney World, which will begin the phased reopening of its Disney Springs shopping and dining district on May 20, 2020.
In a May 7 post on the Disney Parks Blog, it was announced that the phased reopening of Disney Springs at Walt Disney World will start on Wednesday, May 20. The entire complex will not reopen at once, as only a limited number of third-party-owned shopping and dining experiences will be part of the initial phase.
Capacity will be limited in the Disney Springs district and its adjacent parking garages, and operating hours will be shortened. Sanitizing procedures will be increased, and guests and employees will be asked to observe social distancing precautions, including wearing appropriate face coverings. Disney is expected to release further details regarding safety restrictions prior to May 20.
The remainder of Walt Disney World Resort, including theme parks and resort hotels, continues to be closed until further notice. Universal Orlando Resort is also closed at this time, although CityWalk will open select locations as of May 14.
