Two weeks after Walt Disney World unveiled its post-quarantine plans, the Disneyland Resort has announced a phased reopening of the Anaheim attraction, beginning with Downtown Disney on July 9, with the Disneyland and Disney California Adventure theme parks resuming operations on July 17, and select resort hotels reemerging on July 23.

Disneyland Resort Phased Reopening begins July 9
Disneyland Resort’s phased reopening kicks off on July 9, with the theme parks reopening on July 17.

Like most attractions across the country, Anaheim’s Disneyland Resort closed in March due to the COVID-19 coronavirus, but now the Happiest Place on Earth is set to reemerge beginning on July 9, when the Downtown Disney shopping and dining complex will once again welcome guests. Then, pending state approval, Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park will reopen on July 17, which happens to be the original Disneyland’s 65th birthday. Finally, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will resume operations on July 23; no reopening date has been released for the Disneyland Hotel.

Once reopened, guests at the Disneyland Resort will likely experience many of the same social distancing and heath safety restrictions we’ve seen at the recently opened Disney Springs and Universal Orlando Resort. That includes mandatory temperature checks, plus face coverings for all guests ages 2 and older. Certain attractions and experiences will be unavailable (including parades and nighttime spectaculars) or modified from their usual forms.

Most importantly, capacity will be strictly limited when the Disneyland parks reopen, so all guests—including Annual Passholders—will be required to use a new advance reservations system to enter the parks. Disneyland has also temporarily suspended new ticket sales, as well as Annual Passport sales and renewals. Look for more details about tickets and reservations in the coming weeks.

In related news, the CityWalk complex at Universal Studios Hollywood has reopened with limited operations. A reopening date for the Universal theme park has not been announced.
