300 Drones Light Up the Sky Over Disney Springs

A first not only for Disney but also in the United States is a new holiday experience featuring 300 show drones illuminating the night sky. Starbright Holiday—An Intel Collaboration takes place nightly at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. now through January 8th over Lake Buena Vista. The 5-minute choreographed aerial performance of 300 drones is set to holiday music, and the drones create holiday images such as a Christmas tree, an angel, and a dove of peace. The show also marks the U.S. public debut of the Intel Shooting Star drone–a new type of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) specifically designed for entertainment purposes such as festivals and air and light shows. Designed to be lightweight, the Intel Shooting Star drone is composed of a Styrofoam body and plastics and weighs in at just 0.617 pounds, or less than the weight of a volleyball. The purpose-built quadcopter show drone is also equipped with LED lights that can create more than 4 billion color combinations and easily be programmed for any animation.

Disney Springs All Spruced Up for the Holidays

Disney’s shopping, dining, and entertainment complex is a destination in itself; with free parking at the new Lime and Orange garages, it is easy to indulge in some shopping therapy while enjoying a wide variety of free entertainment.

Every night at the Once Upon a Toy fountain play area, a Christmas tree lighting takes place at 6 p.m. But there is more.

Throughout the evening, toy soldier stilt walkers, carolers, and an a capella group take turns spreading holiday cheer, and a DJ spins holiday-themed music, making sure that you get into the Yuletide spirit.

A Christmas tree trail features 15 custom-decorated evergreens, each capturing a popular Disney character or movie.

At Disney Springs you will find plenty of holiday photo ops, but what would Christmas be without meeting Santa? Fear not, the jolly man meets at Santa’s Chalet through December 24th; December 25th through December 30th, Santa Goofy takes over the chalet located across from the Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop. Santa meets from noon till 10 p.m. In order to avoid long lines, Disney has put a pager system in place. When you arrive, check in at the podium of the chalet where you will be handed a pager from one of Santa’s Helpers. When you receive a message to return to the chalet, do so within 10 minutes and take your place in line to meet Santa.
