Soupe du jour, hot hors d’oeuvres
Why, we only live to serve
Try the grey stuff, it’s delicious
Don’t believe me, ask the dishes
Be Our Guest, — lyrics by Howard Ashman
I am sure you remember Lumiere’s song in Beauty and The Beast but did you ever ask yourselves what he means by “the grey stuff?” There are many snacks available at Walt Disney World, and believe it or not “the grey stuff” is one of them. It even is on the menu of the Be Our Guest restaurant inside the Beast Castle in the Magic Kingdom. So next time you can score a reservation at Be Our Guest try it out and let us know what you think.
Another favorite of mine are the smoked turkey legs. Did you know that more than 1.6 million turkey legs are consumed every year in the six Disney Parks at Walt Disney World and Disneyland? The snack is huge and there is plenty of meat on the bone to share.
The new meal plan considers funnel cakes with toppings a snack making this delectable treat affordable for those on a meal plan. If you are on a meal plan I strongly suggest you go all out and order funnel cake with vanilla ice cream on top. If you are not on a meal plan the snack is still a good deal as it is huge and easily feeds four. Here are some locations where the funnel cakes are available: at the American Adventure pavilion at Epcot, Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in the Magic Kingdom and at the Oasis Canteen at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and from the Funnel Cake Cart at Disney’s BoardWalk.
The next two treats will make every child’s heart beat faster and they are also great for sharing.
The Kitchen Sink at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop is the mother of all ice cream sundaes and if eight scoops of ice cream with every possible topping you can imagine don’t frighten you I say got for it! Beaches & Cream Soda Shop is located at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. In case you are wondering how much ice cream 8 scoops are – well it translates into a full gallon of frozen deliciousness. As for the toppings they include brownies, Oreo cookies and even Milky Way bars. It is all topped with lots of fresh cream, sprinkles, peanut butter morsels and chocolate shavings of course. You can check out the complete list of ingredients here.
A little less but still a lot of ice cream is in the Sand Pail ice cream bucket available at Disney’s water parks Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Inside you will find chocolate and vanilla soft-serve ice cream, cookie pieces, hot fudge, caramel sauce, strawberry sauce, whipped cream and sprinkles. Best of all kids get to keep the bucket which comes with a shovel. At some of the counter service restaurants at Walt Disney World children’s meals are also served in a bucket which is perfect for building sand castles at the beaches of the water parks, the Yacht & Beach Clubs as well as the Caribbean Beach Resort.
I could not end this post without recommending something special for mom and dad. My favorite place for adult snacks is at Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie at Epcot. French pastries, chocolate croissants, macarons aux framboises are only a few of my favorite things.
