The post-quarantine recovery of Central Florida’s tourist attractions began with Universal Orlando taking the lead by reopening its theme parks with new safety protocols and social distancing policies. Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios Florida, and Volcano Bay began their soft-reopening with employee previews on June 1 and 2, and they welcomed annual passholders and hotel guests back to the theme parks on June 3. The public reopening went ahead on June 5. Universal even premiered the theme park industry’s first new post-quarantine attraction, as The Bourne Stuntacular began “technical rehearsal” previews at Universal Studios Florida. One week after Universal Orlando announced to reopen its theme parks, Walt Disney World proposed a phased reopening of its attractions, beginning with the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom on July 11, and expanding to Epcot and Hollywood Studios on July 15.
