A fan-favorite rustic retreat inside the Walt Disney World Resort recently received an extreme makeover, and the Unofficial Guides team has your complete tour of the brand-new Disney Vacation Club Cabins at Fort Wilderness, along with a look at the old-fashioned fun to be had there.
On July 1st, the first phase of The Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort—A Disney Vacation Club property—officially opened, and Unofficial Guide coauthor Seth Kubersky was among the media invited for a hosted preview of the new addition to one of Walt Disney World’s oldest resorts.
The new Cabins, which are the 17th Disney Vacation Club property, will eventually number 350 once all phases are completed later this year. The modern, luxe tiny house-like cabins replace the vintage log cabin-style lodgings, and they sit atop the same footprint. Outdoors, each cabin has its own patio deck, and charcoal barbecue grills are provided.
Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows let in plenty of natural light, while sun shades still allow someone to sleep in on the living room’s Murphy bed.
Cabins all have the same layout, sleeping six guests total, including the separate bedroom that offers twin bunk beds in one corner.
There’s one bathroom per cabin, with a large shower and toilet, plus a second sink just outside the restroom door.
A fully equipped kitchen provides a sink, oven with stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, and all the cookware and utensils you’ll need to prepare a meal.
Each cabin features artwork with nods to the campground’s history, as well as references to Mickey Mouse, Pluto, and Chip and Dale, who are the resort’s mascots.

Once you’ve settled into your Cabin, you’ll want to explore everything there is to do at Fort Wilderness, including outdoor adventures like biking, archery, and catch-and-release fishing excursions for large-mouth bass on beautiful Bay Lake, a serene oasis that’s within screaming distance of the Magic Kingdom.
The fascinating facility is home to the equine cast members that pull vehicles up Main Street U.S.A. or perform in parades, then spend their off hours relaxing here.
You’ll also find a museum-style display documenting Walt Disney’s long history with horses, plus an antique Dragon Wagon pipe organ originally purchased for Disneyland.

I’m not really for it. They look less rustic than the original cabins. Plus, there aren’t enough campsites for the campers. The end of the real campground???
