Becky Gandillon, coauthor of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World, recently enjoyed the Savor the Savanna tour with her husband. Here is her report.
For those seeking an immersive wildlife experience with a touch of luxury, Disney’s Savor the Savanna tour at Animal Kingdom offers the perfect combination of adventure and indulgence.
This premium experience lets you explore the park’s sprawling savanna while enjoying exclusive animal encounters, stunning views, and an impressive sampling of African-inspired cuisine.
What’s Included
The Savor the Savanna tour is a 2-hour journey through the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, offering guests an up-close look at some of Animal Kingdom’s most beloved creatures, including giraffes, zebras, and rhinos.
You’ll board a private safari vehicle that takes you on a personalized exploration of the savanna, away from the crowds of the standard Kilimanjaro Safaris.

Your guide—a knowledgeable Cast Member with expertise in the park’s animals and conservation efforts—will share fascinating facts and stories about the animals you encounter and Disney’s role in protecting wildlife. Along the way, you’ll pause at an exclusive viewing area (“boma”), where you’ll disembark to take in the breathtaking scenery.

Here’s where the “savor” part comes in: you’ll be treated to a curated selection of African-inspired small plates, along with a variety of beverages, including beer and wine for guests 21 and over. The tranquil setting and delicious food make this stop a highlight of the tour, giving you time to relax, enjoy the wildlife, and soak in the beauty of the savanna.

You can eat curry and African breads while watching lions, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and zebras. It’s an experience you won’t find anywhere else on this continent.

Tour Details
The Savor the Savanna tour is offered several times a day, typically starting in the afternoon. The cost is $189-$199 per guest (plus tax), and park admission to Animal Kingdom is required but not included in the tour price. The experience is limited to small groups, typically no more than 15 people.
Guests must be at least 8 years old to participate, and it’s a great option for those looking to explore the safari in a more relaxed, informative way. Because this is a private, guided tour, you can expect plenty of one-on-one time with your guide and ample opportunities to ask questions.
Whether you’re an animal lover, a foodie, or just looking for a unique experience at Animal Kingdom, Savor the Savanna offers a blend of adventure, education, and fine dining that sets it apart from typical park offerings. It’s an ideal way to explore the savanna while indulging in Disney’s signature hospitality.
