Toy Story Land Opening Summer 2018

Toy StoryThe 11-acre Toy Story Land, the first new land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in more than 20 years, is scheduled to open in the summer of 2018.

About Toy Story Land: The idea is that you’ve been shrunk to the size of a toy and placed in Andy’s backyard, where you get to play with the other toys that he’s set up. The new land’s attractions are designed to appeal to young children, which is good because the park has needed more such rides for years. The existing Toy Story Mania! attraction will be incorporated in the new land. When Toy Story Land opens, the Pixar Place entrance will close and the entrance to Toy Story Mania! will relocate inside Toy Story Land. Here’s what we think guests will experience when riding the two new attractions.

Alien Swirling Saucers
Alien Swirling Saucers is themed around Toy Story’s vending machine aliens and their obsession with The Claw. Like Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree in Disney California Adventure, we expect about a dozen ride cars to move, whiplike, in a figure-eight pattern around two circular tracks embedded in the ground. We think there’ll be two of those figure-eight tracks to boost the ride’s hourly capacity. As far as the ride experience, if it’s like Mater’s, it’ll be much milder than the Magic Kingdom’s Mad Tea Party.

Slinky Dog Dash
Slinky Dog Dash is a long outdoor roller coaster designed to look like Andy built it out of Tinkertoys. The coaster’s trains are themed (naturally) to Toy Story’s Slinky Dog. As for intensity, expect something along the lines of the Magic Kingdom’s Barnstormer or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train—lots of turns, dips, and hills but no loops or high-speed curves—and not as forceful as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
